TV-am was awarded the first ITV breakfast franchise by the IBA in 1981. The channel's debut broadcast took place on February 01 1983, two weeks after the BBC launched its own breakfast TV offering, 'Breakfast Time'.
Initially, transmission hours were 6am - 9.15am. However, the IBA later extended this slot by ten minutes.
